Eco-DAS XVII is returning to Honolulu, Hawai`i in September 2026!

We encourage applications from all recent PhD recipients working in the aquatic sciences, as well as individuals working inĀ  other disciplines who are collaborating with aquatic scientists.

Applicants should have received their PhD after 1 June 2024, or plan to defend before 30 June 2027.

The dissertation work of the applicant must deal with an ecological problem in oceanography or limnology. Applications will include:

An abbreviated CV (2 pages);
A letter of support from the applicantā€™s current (graduate or postdoctoral) advisor;
An additional letter of support from another individual familiar with the applicantā€™s background (optional);
A personal statement regarding the applicantā€™s goals and reasons for applying (1 page maximum); and
An abbreviated outline of a proposed collaborative project (2 pages maximum). Projects can include manuscripts, funding proposals, research, or other collaborative efforts.

Letters of support may be provided with the application , or emailed separately to [email protected].

Past symposia have resulted in formal proceedings published as Limnology and Oceanography e-Books; articles appearing in Limnology and Oceanography: Letters, Limnology and Oceanography: Fluids and Environments, Limnology and Oceanography Bulletin, F1000 Research, Oecologia, Environmental Evidence, and other journals; and the Wikiproject Limnology and Oceanography.

Eco-DAS funding is provided by NSF (Award OCE-1925796) and the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography.

Some Eco-DAS sponsors are particularly interested in supporting international participants. Please provide your nationality and the country in which you currently live and work. If you live and work in the US but are not a US citizen, please provide your visa status.

Please provide the name and email for your PhD or postdoctoral advisor (at least one is required), and another person (optional) who have agreed to prepare letters supporting your application. They will receive an automated request by email to provide a letter of reference. It is your responsibility to make sure their letters are provided. Be sure to inform your references about Eco-DAS and your purpose in applying. They should not be surprised to receive a request for a letter of reference!

Eco-DAS typically includes panels, discussions, presentations, or other activities related to professional development. Please mention any professional development activities of particular interest to you.
