Governing Documents

Mission Statement

ASLO fosters a diverse, international scientific community that creates, integrates and communicates knowledge across the full spectrum of aquatic sciences, advances public awareness and education about aquatic resources and research, and promotes scientific stewardship of aquatic resources for the public interest.

Governing Documents

ASLO is incorporated as a nonstock (non-profit) corporation in the State of Wisconsin. Its primary governing documents include the Articles of Incorporation that establishes the corporation, and member-approved By-Laws that detail the association's structure and formal procedures.

In recent years, data privacy has become increasingly important. In 2018 ASLO established a formal Privacy Policy that explains how ASLO collects, stores, and uses personal data. It also describes the legal rights of members regarding their personal data.

The Board of Directors is entrusted with management of the association, and it periodically engages in planning to map out goals and strategies for the next several years. The current 5-year Strategic Plan was established in 2015.

Finally, the Board of Directors has developed a set of principles that guide its decisions; please refer to the Guiding Principles.
