Indigenous fisheries, community-based research, and the science of what works
Andrea Reid is a Nisg̱a’a citizen and scientist engaged in community-partnered work on fish and fisheries, critically examining their pasts and envisioning just futures. Her research and teaching, based out of the Nass River Valley on the British Columbia North Coast, centre approaches that are intergenerational, land-based, and relational. Dr. Reid is a Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Fisheries Science, leading the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries at The University of British Columbia. She is also a National Geographic Explorer, a Fellow of The Explorers Club, a Member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, and co-founder of Riparia – a charitable organization that connects young women and aquatic science on the water.
