Since 1996, the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) has retained the services of The Schneider Group for business and conference management. The Schneider Group, led by its President Helen Schneider Lemay, has been a fixture within ASLO, managing countless memorable ASLO sponsored and co-sponsored meetings and providing essential member services. I write to you today to inform you that as of July 2023, The Schneider Group will be ceasing operations.
What does this mean for ASLO members? Like many professional societies, ASLO uses outside vendors to provide critical support for many of our business activities. Therefore, the ASLO Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Communications and Program Manager – with participation by the ASLO Web Editor and representatives from The Schneider Group – are currently conducting an extensive search for a new association management company (AMC) to provide these services to ASLO going forward, beginning in mid-2023. To aid in the transition, Helen will remain with ASLO in a limited capacity through July 2024.
We are working swiftly and diligently to ensure a smooth transition with no disruption to the quality services and benefits our members enjoy, including our exciting conference lineup, publications, and professional development activities. ASLO members should expect to hear updates from us in the coming months. In addition, as part of this transition, I am pleased to announce that Christopher Schneider, currently VP of The Schneider Group, will be joining ASLO as an employee effective November 1, 2022 for an initial contract term of two years. In his new role as ASLO Technical Director, Chris will continue to oversee and implement ASLO’s association management and conference technology tools and platforms.
