Sustainability Efforts at the PRCC and during the Meeting

The Puerto Rico Convention Center (PRCC) was built in 2005 and continues to do its part to maintain a clean environment, research new methods to achieve sustainability, and promote environmentally friendly practices. The facility has an extensive recycling program, energy, and water conservation, and several other initiatives that benefit its clients, employees, visitors, suppliers, community, and the world. Some key elements you will notice at the Puerto Rico Convention Center include: • Automated control systems for air conditioning and lighting of the facility, as well as the incorporation of natural lighting to reduce overall energy consumption. • Use of lighting materials that consume less energy. • Landscaping with native plants and other flora that require less maintenance and require less water. • Eco-friendly policies and green standards, including the use of green products such as recycled paper products and ecofriendly cleaning supplies in the use and maintenance of the facility. • Established waste reduction and recycling programs. For more information about specific sustainability programs in place at the PRCC, please contact business@aslo.org.

To help further support the environment while attending the meeting in San Juan, make sure you bring a refillable and reusable water bottle. Water will be available in bulk so you may refill your bottle as needed throughout the meeting. If you do not have a water bottle, the ASLO Student Committee is selling water bottles. You may log in to your conference registration record to purchase a water bottle, if you have not done so already. The dining establishments in San Juan will not offer straws with drinks. By not requesting a straw, you can do your part to not put plastic back into the environment. Additionally, feel free to bring your own bamboo utensils to San Juan rather than using plastic utensils.
