The U.S. State Dept | ASPIRE Prize: Opportunity for Outstanding Young Scientists (Closes May 27)

From the Call:
The State Department, in coordination with Wiley and Elsevier, sponsor the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Science Prize for Innovation, Research, and Education (ASPIRE). This annual award recognizes young scientists (under 40) who have demonstrated a commitment to both excellence in scientific research and cooperation with scientists from other APEC member economies.

For the nomination, we are looking for a young (under 40) scientist from the United States (i.e., a U.S. citizen) to put forward as our nominee. Nominees should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in scientific research and cooperation with scientists from other APEC member economies, including inclusive and interdisciplinary collaborations, in subjects such as: biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, mathematics, economics, social sciences and other relevant fields. At its core, the theme will showcase impactful research created to transform the whole of society to become more balanced and sustainable.

Ultimately, each economy within APEC nominates one young scientist for the grand prize of $25,000 USD and the opportunity to attend the APEC Policy Partnership for Science, Technology, and Innovation (PPSTI) meeting in August to speak about their work. Even if they are not selected for the grand prize, the U.S. nominee and two U.S. runners-up will be invited to a roundtable with senior government officials and to give a public lecture in Washington, D.C. and receive cash prizes of $3000 (nominee) and $1200 (two runners-up).

The deadline for U.S. nominees is May 27, 2022. The nomination packet for the Prize is attached and can be found on our website: https://www.state.gov/2022-u-s-aspire-competition/. Completed applications should be sent to ASPIREprize@state.gov.
