MT01 Seeing things differently - the legacy of J Rudi Strickler
Time/Date: Sunday, 04-Jun-23,13:00 to17:00
Location: Sala Portixol 1
Lead Organizer: John Costello (costello@providence.edu)
J. Rudi Strickler introduced us to the microscopic fluid world of plankton with a stunning series of high speed images collected by optical systems of his own design. His creative use of microscopy, lasers, high speed film and video has allowed us to see and measure diverse plankton ranging from protists to fish larvae. He delivered these results via movies and pictures that often resembled fine art. Throughout his career he has served as a mentor to students, post-docs and even established colleagues. The revolution he began has continued and we wish to honor that legacy with an auxiliary meeting at ASLO Aquatic Sciences Meeting 2023. We encourage work that has been inspired by Rudi’s work or envisions the planktonic world. This session will occur outside the standard abstract submission process so we request that you contact organizers directly with your ideas (Ed Buskey: ed.buskey@utexas.edu; Jack Costello: costello@providence.edu; Rubens Lopes: rubens@usp.br).
