Sustainability Efforts
Frank Lloyd Wright first envisioned Monona Terrace at its present site in 1938. This dream became reality in 1997 with its creation, honoring the legacy of the renowned architect. This continues through its sustainability initiatives as a “green building”. The facility was first certified in 2007 at the Silver Level of the U.S. Green Building Council at the Silver Level. In 2015, the efforts were further recognized with advancement to the Gold Level, certified by the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB). The award recognizes the continued efforts of Monona Terrae to promote a whole-bui9lding approach to sustainability.
Additionally, Monona Terrace and Monona Catering have been in partnership with UW Wisconsin’s WE CONSERVE composting program since 2010. The project annually diverts about 20 tons of organic kitchen waste from landfills, reducing the production of methane into the atmosphere. The organic materials are then recycled into a nutrient-rich soil amendment which is sold to area farmers and used on campus landscaping projects.

For Parents and Family
We understand the unique challenges posed when raising a young family while traveling and support the needs of all working parents. The following amenities are provided for those who attend the meeting in Madison and all rooms will be at Monona Terrace. Exact room locations and how to access them will be published at a later date.
- Family Room
This room will be open throughout the meeting and will be available to families with young children. The family room is a quiet out-of-the-way place to read a book, play a game, take a nap, eat a snack, or just regroup and recharge. This room will be set with some tables and chairs. Parents and families must bring their own toys, books, and snacks. Children may not be left in the room unattended but must have supervision in the family room at all times. - Nursing Mothers Room
Meeting participants and guests who are nursing infants are encouraged to use this room to breastfeed. The nursing mothers room will include a comfortable chair and provides privacy in a sanitary, relaxed setting to spend special time with your baby. - Lactation Room
Mothers who are breastfeeding and need to express breastmilk may do so in the comfort offered by the lactation room. This room will be equipped with comfortable furnishings including a table for a pump and supplies, sofa and chairs, mirrors, electrical outlets, refrigerator, microwave, and a private bathroom with a clean sink and hot water for washing a breast pump and parts.
Roommates Wanted
Roommates Wanted is a free online service to student and early career members who are seeking roommates during meetings. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this service since hotel costs can be expensive. More information on this service will be available closer to the meeting dates; please continue to check back for more information.
Make sure you check the box on the registration form if you are interested in sharing a room at the meeting. Neither ASLO, SFS, nor the conference management organization is responsible for individual roommate choices or referrals. Conference management is not able to assist in the process beyond sending the list. Rooming arrangements and hotel reservations are your personal responsibility and should be made at one of the hotels listed in the Accommodations section. We are not able to coordinate any actual room sharing assignments during the conference.
