Education, Early Career, Outreach
Student Resources and Activities: ASLO has a number of activities and resources geared towards undergraduate and graduate students in the aquatic sciences. These activities include everything from advice on presentations and applying to graduate school, to awarding travel grants to meetings and student workshops.
Early Career: Early Career Activities are geared towards those who have completed their Ph.D. and are within 10 years of graduation. Activities includes services related to ASLO meetings (e.g., travel awards, networking, mixers and workshops) as well as providing information on career related opportunities (e.g., job postings, resources, opportunities).
Teaching and Mentoring: Teaching and mentoring activities include assisting ASLO members in the teaching, technical training and mentoring of students in a formal, post-secondary educational setting - both for undergraduate and graduate students. Activities address both pedagogy (the science of learning), processes and practices in teaching and training, and the professional advising and mentoring of students.
Outreach: Outreach activities serve primarily to facilitate ASLO member engagement in public outreach through: 1) dissemination of information (e.g., Bulletin articles, organizing contributed sessions or panel discussions at conferences) and 2) coordination of training opportunities (e.g., workshops or webinars) for ASLO members. Activities also include the coordination and participation in activities that introduce nontechnical audiences to aquatic science (e.g., Science Cafes, participation in the USA Science and Engineering Festival, etc.).
Online Media Library: The ASLO Online Media Library is a freely accessible public repository of images and videos related to the aquatic sciences, including anything from the depths of the ocean to freshwater lakes, from microscopic to large organisms, from our effect as humans on the environment to how we sample and observe the different habitats with our tools and instruments.
