The Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor within the broad specialization of ecosystem modeling. The position will be an academic year appointment with an expected start date of September 1, 2020. We seek applications from researchers who specialize in modeling the ecology and/or biogeochemistry of marine ecosystems to understand ecosystem response to both natural and anthropogenic stressors, including climate change. We seek applicants who strive to understand the mechanisms governing ecosystem function using a variety of modeling approaches. The successful candidate will be an active theoretical and/or numerical model builder and user. The new hire will enter a vibrant research community that includes the broader URI community as well as state and federal institutions such as NOAA and EPA. Opportunities exist to utilize the Brown University Center for Computation and Visualization and to participate in the NSF-funded Coastal Ecology Assessment, Innovation, and Modeling Program for Narragansett Bay. The Graduate School of Oceanography has a broad range of observational capabilities and a strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration.
