U.K. Associates of BIOS Student Internship
Through the generosity of the U.K. Associates of BIOS and AXA XL we will be awarding a 12-week research internship in 2019.
The U.K. Associates of BIOS Internship at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences provides students with the opportunity to design and conduct an independent research project, working directly with BIOS faculty mentors. Interns have the opportunity to participate in laboratory work, research cruises and/or other field work, depending on the research area.
Find the current list of potential intern research projects and mentors at http://www.bios.edu/education/mentors-and-potential-research projects
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in U.K. universities or colleges are eligible to apply, with preference given to U.K. citizens.
The internship is for 12 consecutive weeks. Start dates are flexible depending on mentor/intern schedules and nature of the project – you have the opportunity to advise your preferred start date on the application form.
Interns are required to give three presentations that outline their research topic, methods, and results, including a final presentation to BIOS faculty, staff and fellow interns. A final report must also be submitted following completion of the internship.
Application deadline is May 1, 2019.
The internship covers the cost of on-campus accommodation at BIOS and meals, as well as a small stipend plus a contribution towards research expenses. Travel expenses and medical/travel insurance are not covered and are the responsibility of the student.
Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in optional field and boat excursions to learn about Bermuda's natural history.
