The School of Marine Science and Policy (SMSP) at the University of Delaware (UD) is seeking an ecosystem modeler with research interests in estuarine and coastal marine environments for a tenure-track assistant professor position to start by Fall 2019. A Ph.D. in marine science, ecology, oceanography, or a related field is required.

We seek a dynamic individual who will establish an internationally recognized, extramurally funded, applied research program on the natural systems in the coastal zone with a quantitative modeling approach. The ideal candidate has experience in, or a concrete pathway towards, collaborating on policy, social, or economic questions. Research areas include: human and natural ecosystem coupling; modeling the effects of climate change on coastal ecosystems; and coupling physical oceanography models with biological and/or chemical models in the coastal zone. It is expected that the new hire will utilize and integrate a variety of observational datasets and will crossover into synergistic big data and data science University-wide initiatives. Demonstrated excellence in teaching or a clear plan for contributing to the teaching mission of the school is required.

SMSP is part of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research bridging the social and natural sciences aimed at the conservation of estuarine, coastal, and ocean environments. SMSP offers graduate programs in Marine Biosciences, Marine Policy, Oceanography, and Physical Ocean Science & Engineering and an undergraduate major in Marine Science. SMSP is situated on the main campus in Newark and on the coastal campus in Lewes, which together offer ready access to a variety of coastal and estuarine environments and the Mid-Atlantic Bight.
