ASLO expands its social media presence with Instagram

ASLO Instagram is Live! This week we launched the official ASLO instagram.

Did you know that in a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, 70% could not name a living scientist?1 The 30% who could generally referred to celebrity scientists such as Neil Degrasse Tyson or Stephen Hawking, but many folks don’t realize that their friends and neighbors are in fact scientists themselves.

Instagram presents a unique avenue through which we can interact with individuals outside of the scientific community. Eye-catching visual images have the power to draw the scientifically curious into learning more about our field. We plan on featuring photos of modern and historical scientists from ASLO’s archives to share their stories and demystify the aquatic sciences. Some other weekly posts you can expect include #TerminologyTuesday, #ThrowbackThursday, and #FieldworkFriday. If you would like to be featured on our page or are interested in doing an Instagram takeover, please reach out to us at communications@aslo.org, tag @asloorg in your photos, or include our hashtags on your posts!
