ASM 2017 Call for Session Proposals

Submission deadline 17 June 2016

ASLO 2017 Aquatic Sciences Meeting 26 February to 3 March 2017 Honolulu, HI, USA Dear ASLO Member: In 2017, ASLO will be returning to Honolulu to convene its biennial Aquatic Sciences Meeting. We invite you to participate in this dialogue among limnologists and oceanographers from around the world. Our conference theme, “From the Mountains to the Sea”, emphasizes the connectivity of our planet’s aquatic systems, and underscores the urgent need to share knowledge, insights, discoveries, and different world views about the lakes, rivers, streams, aquifers, wetlands, and oceans that comprise our Earth’s hydrosphere. For over a thousand years, Native Hawaiian lifestyle exemplified a model relationship between people and landscape. The successful integration of culture and resource management along natural watershed boundaries, ahupua'a, that run from the mountains (mauka) to the sea (makai), was, and continues to be paramount. Thus, our conference theme is particularly fitting for the venue, as we recognize and examine the interconnectedness of aquatic systems. As part of the ASLO meeting experience, we are organizing excursions that will provide an opportunity to experience the physical beauty and cultural uniqueness of Hawai'i. We welcome proposals for special sessions on topics relevant to freshwater and marine systems and encourage submissions that examine connectivity across aquatic habitats at global, local, and microbial scales. We hope that you will consider developing an idea for a special session that will contribute to a lively conference. Proposals must identify two co-chairs and include an informative session title and a short (200 words) session description. Proposals should also indicate the desired format (talks/posters/both), and 5-10 key words from the list shown on the form. Session proposals must be submitted via the online submission form. Proposals will be reviewed by the meeting co-chairs and members of the scientific committee.
