Announcing the Raelyn Cole Editorial Fellowship Fund

In recognition of her long and dedicated service, we are pleased to announce that ASLO has established the Raelyn Cole Editorial Fellowship Fund. This fund will be used specifically to establish an editorial fellowship program to be launched in 2016 with L&O Letters, ASLO’s newest open access journal. The fellowship is designed to provide targeted professional development in science publishing, to establish greater expertise and experience in editing and writing for science journals, to train the next generation of authors and editors, and to encourage sustained, meaningful participation in ASLO as a vanguard aquatic sciences professional association. Fellows will work directly with the L&O Letters Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors to become versed in the peer-review, editing, and publication processes. Fellows will receive training and experience in data-sharing policies and scholarly publishing in general. Details on the fellowship and invitations for applications will be announced in the fall of 2016. ASLO will use proceeds from a growing Raelyn Cole Editorial Fellowship Fund to support multiple fellows at a time. Other ASLO editors-in-chief/journals may also consider the inclusion of these Fellows in their operations. To ensure that this initiative meets our expectations we are encouraging donations from both the ASLO community and outside partners. Dale Cole and family have made a very generous gift as an initial contribution to establish this fund. Please e-mail for details on tax-deductible contributions to the fund and its important purpose.
