Microscopic Life
Much of the biomass of life in the ocean and inland waters is microscopic, barely visible or too small to see without the assistance of a magnifying glass or microscope.ย Microscopic life can be single-celled like bacteria or microalgae, or complex and multicellular like copepods.ย Some microorganisms grow in massive colonies and are easily visible to the human eye.ย This collection of images is a sampling of the ever-present "microscopic" life of inland waters and oceans.
