On May 31, 2019, the US Department of State updated its immigrant and non-immigrant visa application forms to request additional information, including social media identifiers, from most U.S. visa applicants worldwide.

The new policy requires visa applicants to share links to their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media accounts—which will give the government access to a variety of personal details about individuals, including photos, date of birth, and where a person has been.
