ASLO and CASS write Congress in support of science funding

The Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) and several other aquatic societies submitted open witness testimony to congressional appropriators in support of science at the EPA, NOAA and NASA today. The testimony was submitted on behalf of the Consortium of Aquatic Science Societies (CASS), whose membership includes ~20,000 aquatic science professionals. Other signatories on the testimony are the American Fisheries Societythe Society for Freshwater Science, the Phycological Society of America, the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation and the Society of Wetland Scientists.

In their testimony, CASS members expressed concern regarding the Trump Administration's March 16 budget blueprint, which  identified drastic cuts to the three agencies that would eliminate many critical programs that support sustainable use and economic development of the nation's aquatic resources, coasts and oceans. CASS urged appropriators to reject these recommendations and instead provide full support to aquatic science and management programs at NOAA, EPA, and NASA.
