Box core for paleolimnological analyses of Great Salt Lake (Utah)
A box corer is retrieved from the Great Salt Lake (Utah, USA). The stratified sediments will be used to study evolutionary responses of brine shrimp to increases in heavy metal loading (selenium, mercury) during the last 100 years. Box cores provide a large sample for analyses. This 35-cm long core will provide information on approximately 300 years of history in the lake. Photo, July 2006.
