Sediment core, Great Salt Lake, for paleolimnological analyses
      next

Researchers hold an 80-cm long gravity core taken from the Great Salt Lake of Utah (USA). The paleolimnological analysis of this core will determine how long brine shrimp cysts (eggs) can remain viable in anoxic sediments of the lake. Additional analyses will assess evolutionary changes in the brine shrimp in response to increased metal (Se, Hg) loading to the lake. The core contains information on approximately 500-800 years of lake history.
