A dry floodplain in the foreground and alpine lakes in the background in the Lais da Rims area of the eastern Swiss Alps. The stream is fed by spring and summer snowmelt, but is dry on the surface in the fall. The karst (limestone) geology of the area also allows water to penetrate easily into the groundwater.
