A researcher measures the gradient of Stanley Creek in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho (USA). A massive landslide has brought huge amounts of sediments and tree trunks (large woody debris) into the stream. However, the high gradient and swift water has carried most of the fine sediments to the flood plain and lake below. August 2002.
