Kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in a pool created by a tree trunk and its root wad. Like their marine cousins, the land-locked kokanee turn bright red when they migrate to streams and rivers to spawn. After the juvenile salmon hatch in the spring, they will migrate down the stream and live and grow 2-4 years in a downstream lake before returning to their natal stream to spawn.
