Researchers prepare to sample plankton in Lake Michigan with a 1-m diameter zooplankton net. The mm-sized crustaceans and larval fishes captured in the net will be analyzed in the laboratory to help understand the food web of the lake. Oceanographic vessels and equipment are needed for limnological sampling in very large lakes. Photo; September 1990.
