Famous limnologist and fish ecologist John Magnuson floats in the salty water of the Great Salt Lake, Utah. Salinities at the time of the photo were near 125 g/L, or about 4 times that of seawater. In dry periods, salinities reach 280 g/L. The high salt content makes the water more buoyant. Photo, July 1990.
