A researcher prepares to launch a conductivity-temperature-depth profiler (CTD) into Yellow Belly Lake, Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho. The profiler also has fluorometers to measure chlorophyll and rhodamine dye. The SeaBird CTD samples 8 times per second as it is lowered through the water column, thus providing a detailed view of underwater stratification of many parameters. Photo, summer 1998.
