China Lake, in the Frank Church Wilderness area of Idaho (USA), was formed by a small glacier that pushed down the mountain at the right, digging a basin and depositing a morain dam at the lake outlet. Such lakes have very small watersheds, and consequently have few nutrients entering them to promote algal growth. The resulting clarity of the lake is obvious. Photo July 2004.
