A cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) bloom on Lake Taihu, Jiangsu Province, China. Eutrophication in this shallow lake is being studied by the Taihu Laboratory for Lake Ecosystem Research, a part of the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology. Agriculture in the region contributes to the eutrophication. A floating fisherman home is in the background. Photo, September 2000.
