Beaver pond & rainbow - Big Wood River, Idaho
      next

Beavers greatly modify watersheds by their dam building activities. Here, a series of wetlands have been created along the Big Wood River in Idaho. Trapping of beavers in the 1800's greatly reduced populations and modified watersheds. Beaver ponds retain sediments and slow nutrient transport through the watershed. A rainstorm and beautiful rainbow highlight the scene.
