In a recent publication, Carlos Duarte and his colleagues suggest increased artificial hard substrate could be related to potential increases in jellyfish in coastal regions worldwide. Coined the ‘Trojan Horse’ hypothesis, it is believed that these structures could provide additional habitat for microscopic, benthic polyps that produce medusae. Pictured here are thousands of Aurelia polyps attached to a dock in the Inland Sea of Japan.
