Brine flies (Ephydra spp.) in solar pond, Great Salt Lake, Utah
Brine flies concentrated along a salt-saturated solar pond located near Promentory Point in the Great Salt Lake. The flies cannot grow and reproduced in the salt-saturated ponds, so they are likely from the nearby south arm of the lake (Gilbert Bay), where the salinity was only about 120 g/L at the time of the photo.
