An abandoned salt pond of Great Salt Lake Minerals company on the tip of Promontory Point, Great Salt Lake. The red color in the pond is due to Dunaliella rubens and pigmented Archaea, some of the only organisms that can survive the salt-saturated (ca. 300 g/L) water.
