Iron oxides precipitated in wetland stream, Kamicochi, Japan
Reddish-orange iron oxides precipitated in a wetland creek in the Japanese Alps (Kamicochi area). The iron likely was in dissolved form (ferrous iron)in an an aquifer, and when it became exposed to oxygen, the ferrous iron would be oxidized to ferric iron and precipitate as oxides of iron.
