A student stands by a fyke (trap) net set in the Willard Spur area of Bear River Bay in the NE section of the Great Salt Lake. The Wasatch Mountains are in the background.

The catch was primarily common carp, but crappie, Utah chub, wipers and yellow perch were also captured. This was the first known fish collection of this area of the Great Salt Lake, and it was done to study whether a wastewater (sewage) treatment plant is influencing this area of the lake. Salinity was approximately 4 g/L.
