A playa wetland stretches out towards Laguna del Plata, a shallow bay of Mar Chiquita. Mar Chiquita and the bay are saline. The salinity of the bay varies substantially with the inflows of the Rio Primero. The salinity of Mar Chiquita also varies considerably over decade time scales, but was 66 g/L when the photo was taken.


The system is being studied by personnel from the University of Cordoba and the Estacion Biologica in the town of Miramar located about 20 km north of Laguna del Plata.
