Recent rains in the area of Mar Chiquita, Cordoba, Argentina produced a sheet flow of fresh water over the playa beach of Mar Chiquita, a saline lake in north-central Argentina.
Abundant algae, cyanobacteria and other microbes grow in the sheet flows and provide food for higher organisms such as insects and eventually the birds that feed in these productive wetlands.
