      Spring Creek, Logan Canyon, Utah
      next

A beautiful spring creek emerges from the limestone walls of Logan Canyon and flows about 1 km into Third Dam, a small impoundment on the Logan River.

Spring Creeks, because they derive from groundwater, have fairly constant temperatures and flows, and thus support abundant growth year-around, even in cold temperate climates like that of northern Utah. In the nearby Logan River the growth of algae on the substrates is far less because sediments in spring floods sand blast the rocks and move them, making it difficult for long-living attached organisms like mosses to survive.
