A resident hauling reeds (Schoenoplectus californicus) in his sailboat from the wetlands in Puno Bay of Lake Titicaca. The reeds are used for boat building, roofs, sleeping mats, forage for livestock, and the islands of the Uros Indians.
The reeds, formerly called Scirpus californicus, grow to considerable depths in the lake.
