The Cui-ui, Chasmistes cujus, is endemic only to Pyramid Lake, Nevada. It spawns late spring in the lower Truckee River within the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. It is the very first fish federally listed as endangered in 1967. The Tribe plays an active part in maintaining a stable population of this fish species. The Paiute people around Pyramid Lake were originally named after this fish, since it was their proncipal food source for over 10,000 years. You can read more about the fishery program on the Tribe's website: http://pyramidlakefisheries.org/
