Fragillariopsis spp. pennate diatom chains sampled in the upper water column during spring sea ice conditions in the Bering Sea, April 2008, from USCG icebreaker Healy. Epifluorescence image of DAPI stained sample. Red color is chlorophyll autofluorescence, blue color is diatom cytoplasm and nucleii.
