Thousands of gulls concentrated where a culvert brings water from the south arm (Gilbert Bay) to the north arm (Gunnison Bay) of the Great Salt Lake (Utah, USA). The water brings in abundant brine shrimp to the salt-saturated north arm. The reason for the bird congregation is not known, but shrimp may be shocked by the saturated water making them easier to be preyed upon.
