Foam patterns on Gunnison Bay, Great Salt Lake Utah
      next

A windy morning produced lots of foam on the north arm of the Great Salt Lake (Gunnison Bay). After the winds subsided and the lake calmed, interesting foam patterns remained. The foam is likely the result of high dissolved organic carbon in the water, but concentrations have not yet been tested.

Gunnison Bay is about 30% salinity (300 ppt)and a green algae (Dunaliella rubens) and Archaea with photo-protective red pigments are dominant.
