Waste waters from the Logan Wastewater Treatment Plant (Utah) are discharged into Swift Slough. The high organic matter in the effluent allows foam to form.

The city's wastewaters receive secondary treatment in oxidation lagoons, followed by secondary polishing in a treatment wetland. The treated effluent is still high in phosphorus concentrations, and this water enters into Cutler Reservoir where it may contribute to eutrophication.
