A tranquil morning view of a rafter's camp on a large sand beach in lower Hells Canyon of the Snake River. Although Hells Canyon Dam starves much of the river of fine sediments, the lower section is replenished with sediments from the Salmon and Imnaha Rivers. This allows beaches such as this one to form (see Schmidt, Grams & Webb, 1995, Comparison of the Magnitude of Erosion Along Two Large Regulated Rivers).
