A raft pulled to shore for the evening in Hells Canyon of the Snake River. The river has both white water and tranquil sections such as the one shown here.


Beaches are limited in this section because Hells Canyon Dam traps sediments, while high flows in the river carry away the small sediments, leaving gravels and boulders behind (see Paul Grams and J. Schmidt).
