Description:
|
Salt ponds of Great Salt Minerals Corporation produce a variety of metals, as well as common salt. Brine is pumped into the ponds from the hypersaline north arm (Gunnison Bay) the Great Salt Lake and allowed to evaporate further. In the background, lies a freshwater reservoir (Willard Bay)that was built by diking a portion of the lake bottom and diverting in water from the Weber River. To the left lies Willard Spur and the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. In the far background are the Wasatch Mountains that capture snow that eventually feeds these water bodies.
