Farmington Bay Refuge lies in the SE corner of the Great Salt Lake. The diked ponds in the background receive the fresh water from the Jordan River that flows through Salt Lake City. A mud flat and spit is visible on the left. The Salt Lake City Sewer Canal enters the bay just to the right of the large, rectangular pond. It, and other other wastewater disposal discharges from Davis County make Farmington Bay hypereutrophic, and create massive algal blooms. The Wasatch Mountains are visible in the background.
