August Thieneman (1882-1960), a famous German limnologist who was the Director of the Max-Planck Institut fur Limnologie in Plon for 40 years. He authored 460 publications, many on chironomids or lake typology, and along with Naumann he worked created the oligo-eutrophic lake classification scheme.
