D.G. Frey in 1985 (right). Professor Frey, who was born in 1915 and obtained his Ph.D. at Wisconsin in 1940 with Juday, was well known for paleolimnological and especially palynological studies and the phylogeny of chydorids. He notably studied the Bay Lakes of North Carolina, and performed an Indiana lake and field survey. Frey translated Ruttner's Fundamentals of Limnology and was the founding editor of Limnology and Oceanography. Photo from old ASLO slide collection; taken by M. Brenner; scanned by K.L. Schulz.
