This is a thermokarst lake that appears to be expanding into surrounding low-centered ice-wedge polygons. This was likely a drained lake basin that is reexpanding in a normal thaw-lake cycle. This photo was taken west of Deadhorse, Alaska on the Colville Delta region. Oil extraction and transport infrastructure can be observed in the background.
